The staff at this zoo were fantastic—super friendly and ready to answer any questions we had. The animals looked healthy and well-cared for, and it was clear the zoo prioritizes their welfare. The enclosures were clean and well-maintained, providing the animals with plenty of space to roam. We spent hours exploring and learned so much about the animals and the conservation work the zoo is doing. Highly recommend it for anyone interested in wildlife!
  • While large animals often receive the most attention, zoos also work to protect small mammals, such as meerkats and fennec foxes. These species play important roles in their ecosystems, and zoos contribute to their survival through breeding programs.
  • Some zoos function as wildlife rehabilitation centers, taking in injured or sick animals and providing medical care with the goal of reintroducing them into the wild. These efforts are essential for helping populations recover from threats like poaching or habitat loss.

Primate Behavior Research

Zoos provide opportunities to study primate behavior in ways that are not always possible in the wild. This research helps scientists better understand social structures, communication, and the needs of species like chimpanzees and orangutans.

Reptile Conservation

Reptiles face numerous threats, including habitat destruction and poaching for the pet trade. Zoos help protect these species by providing safe environments for breeding and by educating the public on the importance of reptile conservation.

Understanding Animal Behavior

Zoos conduct studies on animal behavior that help improve our understanding of how animals communicate, socialize, and solve problems. This research not only improves animal care in zoos but also informs conservation strategies in the wild

The Role of Zoos in Wildlife Medicine

Zoos are often leaders in wildlife medicine, providing specialized care for injured and sick animals. Many zoos have veterinary staff who are experts in treating exotic species, making them essential for both conservation and rehabilitation efforts.
